History / development

The St. John's cabin was 1857 by the Sudeten German Geoplasten Franz Keil, at the suggestion of the famous Viennese geographer Friedrich Simony built.
It was named in honor of the financial sponsor Johann Archduke of Austria, Son of Emperor Leopold II.
The St. John's Cottage is one of the oldest alpine huts in the Eastern Alps. It was 1870 by the German Alpine Club and taken over 1876 the section of Prague transfer.
1929/30 the hut was extended by a Holzblockbau.
Since 1993 John is the hut in the possession of the section of the DAV Oberland.
1999 the cottage was completely renovated and expanded by the Section.
